What is life like for you in California, USA?
Life is blessed here in Cali. I have a beautiful family… my husband Anthony, daughters Jade, Lyric, and Harmony, and my son Levi. I am blessed to be able to lead worship full time at my amazing church Abundant Living Family Church.
How did you feel when you found out you had won the best new worship song throughout all of the USA?
I was super excited! I was so humbled and blessed to know my song touched y’all the way it did and was chosen out of hundreds of other songs across the United States.
How did you write ‘No Greater Love (It Is Finished)’ and why?
When this song came about, God had me in a bit of a lonely season. I had only to depend on him and from that all I could think about was His love for me. And there truly is no greater love than His! Who knew it would go so far and touch so many people’s lives, I’m truly humbled.
How did you become a Christian?
I grew up in church since I was a baby but I didn’t really fully surrender to God until my mid 20’s. God had His perfect timing for me and the scripture became my truth… train up a child… and they will not depart. My mothers prayers are a huge part of where I am today.
You’re a very talented singer/songwriter - does it just come naturally to you, or is it something you’ve had to develop/work on?
It’s definitely something that has been developed and still being developed as time goes by. I think there’s always room for growth no matter what stage in life you’re at.
What has been the most challenging thing for you on your journey, and how have you overcome it?
I’d say the most challenging thing has been dealing with church hurt. Not allowing it to hinder me from my future in Christ. A lot of prayer and fasting got me through that. And now I can honestly say it definitely made me stronger.
What was working on your song ‘No Greater Love’ with Luke Munns as a Music Producer like? What was it like recording at Capitol Records?
Luke and the team were absolutely amazing! So sweet and humble. Recording at Capitol Records was definitely a dream. It was crazy to even think I was in that studio where artists like Ariana Grande, Katy Perry and Paul McCartney have recorded in. So fun!!!
Did you learn or experience or learn anything significant during the journey?
I’d say this journey has taught all of us more patience. With the pandemic hitting, I didn’t know when the song would come out but I knew God would allow it at his perfect timing. Being patient knowing he’s in control is something I’ve definitely learned during this season - and here it is!
What was your favorite part about the recording process and why?
I’d say my favorite part was recording at Capitol Records because that’s like a once in a lifetime thing lol. And also too, recording the choir vocals at my church was super memorable for me as well. Everyone had such a great time!
What do you dream of doing with the gifts God has given you in the future?
I want to be able to lead people into the presence of God. Being able to lead worship is something I’ve been blessed to do full time, but it doesn’t have to be just that. We can lead people to Christ wherever we are. We are the church and where you are, Christ is also. Be the light he has created you to be and let it shine brighter than anything!
